  • Reforestation via Better Urban Green Planning

Join WWC at the Kirby Nature for a free, lively talk by Greg Torres, a horticulturist at Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati. Greg's talk will focus on the importance of reforestation with an emphasis on urban green space. By planning urban environments to include trees and green "islands," we can help offset deforestation, provide habitat for diverse creatures, and enjoy healthier and more beautiful surroundings.

Before moving to Cincinnati, Greg worked nearly a decade in South Florida as a Florida Master Naturalist, Interpretive Guide, and Program Leader in Collier County's Department of Parks and Recreation. Since arriving in Cincinnati, Greg has worked with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Horticulture team and Cincinnati Parks Greenspaces. Greg joined the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati in July 2017. Greg is charged with overseeing the gardens on the Civic Garden Center site and instructing members of the community on horticultural topics. He holds a B.A. in History, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Biological Sciences with a focus on horticulture. He also enjoys working locally to benefit the community and as an active volunteer and President of Northside Greenspaces, Inc.
