    Note about the Semi-Colon Club:

Started by Harriet's Uncle Samuel Foote whose house was located at the current side of the Freedom Center, the club was a literary group when progressive minds and local leaders met to discuss literature, politics and review each other's writing. It was here Harriet developed her writing style and won her first writing award. Unusual in it's day, the group was open to both men and women and included such notables as Harriet Beecher, Calvin Stowe, Salmon P. Chase, Dr. Daniel Drake,
Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the future first woman doctor in America and
her brothers suggragist and abolitionist Henry and Samuel Blackwell.
