Announcements
COR turns two years old!  The Community of Reason (COR): Atheists and Humanists of Ohio and Kentucky was formed in January 2019 when our founding organizers came together to create a secular community based on shared values, interests, and mission. Our commitment to our values of integrity, equality, curiosity, and compassion, is fundamental to our organization and everything we do. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Second Anniversary Party this past Saturday!

In December 2020, we held our first election for the Community of Reason Board of Directors. Thank you to everyone who participated in this election!  Special thanks to the Elections Committee for overseeing this process in a fair and timely manner that was consistent with our values. The results of the election and the subsequent selection of the board officers will be announced at the COR Monthly Meeting on Tuesday January 12 at 7pm via Zoom.

December Recap
During our December monthly meeting, we watched and discussed “The Satanic Panic - The Witch Hunt of the Late Twentieth Century” presented by Seth Andrews, the Thinking Atheist. While some of the examples from this time were humorous and highlighted the ridiculousness of the arguments from religious leaders, the underlying fears and misinformation they are spreading are still very much a part of the religious right that is having a real impact on our society and the challenges we face today.

Bob Hermann presented information from the Green Umbrella 2020 Midwest Sustainability Summit during Science on Tap. Green Umbrella is the regional sustainability alliance of Greater Cincinnati and COR is a proud member of this alliance and we are looking for opportunities to get more involved with their work.

We celebrated the season with our Merry Whatever celebration! The format was of course different from last year, but we had just as much fun. Our secret santa gift exchange was a fun and interactive way to learn more about participants by what they put on their wish lists. There was also a heated competition for Holiday Jeopardy during which we learned what state was the first to officially recognize Christmas as a holiday and in what year. Do you know without Google?  Take a guess, and scroll to the bottom to find out the answer!
